The Silent Indian National Anthem
On the occasion of India’s 61st Republic Day in 2011, this silent rendition of India’s National Anthem, interpreted through the sign language and gestures, was created by the Mudra Group. The video was flashed across screens on 26 January that year for the first time in all the BIG Cinemas, before the commencement of feature film. BIG Cinemas is a division of Reliance MediaWorks.
The film was shot in Mumbai’s Don Bosco School and nearly 500 children, from eight Mumbai-based special schools, featured in this. These children rehearsed for nine days in their schools before the final shoot. Sangeeta Gala, a mute-training and lip reading specialist teacher, trained the children to express the national anthem in sign language and through gesture.
The crew details of the film are as follows: Director: Amit Sharma; Producer: Chrome Pictures; Music: Micu Patel; Post-production: Reliance Mediaworks.
